A story of passion

A restaurant owner dedicated to wine

Le Goût du Vin adventure began with an exotic twist on the island of Saint Martin in the West Indies. Daniel Passeri, then a young chef and graduate of the Lycée Simone Weil hotel school in Dijon, opened his first Burgundian-style restaurant there in 1979, L’Auberge Gourmande. His cuisine, praised by the New York Times, was a victim of its own success, and a second address, aptly named Le Tastevin, was opened in 1984. Keen to offer a wine list that lived up to the establishment’s name, in 1988 Daniel became a true enthusiast and specialized in importing and wholesaling, creating the Grands Vins de France company. His first colleague, Philippe Jobert, still with the company, became his right-hand man. Daniel soon gave up his restaurant business to devote himself to his passion and develop Grands Vins de France.

Wine for every taste

In 1991, in parallel with the Grands Vins de France wholesale business, a cellar opened in Marigot, called Le Goût Du Vin, run for over 25 years by the very professional Martial. The same year, the wholesale business begins in Saint-Barthélemy. In 1994, the wholesale business and a winery opened in Anguilla with our dear Nathalie, who is still present.
A few months later, the Saint-Barthélemy cellar, also named Le Goût Du Vin, was inaugurated.
In November 2021, the historic Marigot store moved to the seafront, adding over 100 m2 of sales space and a beautiful tasting room.
In December 2022, a second cellar in St Martin, still called Le Goût Du Vin, is inaugurated in the Hope Hill area.
In April 2023, Grands Vins de France’s head office moves to Hope Hill in the newly constructed building. More than 1,200 square meters of temperature-controlled storage, and the offices, next to second cellar.
Today, Grands Vins de France is the largest wine importer-distributor in the Lesser Antilles, supplying some twenty islands.

A successful model

Alongside the Caribbean, Daniel expanded his business, Le Goût du Vin, by setting up as a wholesaler in Burgundy, closer to his roots, in 2011. Now a seasoned connoisseur of foreign wines, he has exclusive import rights for over 300 must-have references. The first Le Goût du Vin boutique opened in downtown Dijon, followed by Quetigny in 2017, and Ahuy in 2021. The independent company, expert in French and foreign wines, shares over 25 years of know-how with its customers.
